Facebook Privacy - September 2011

As of September 21, 2011 Facebook made major changes to its news feed and added a ticker. The ticker gives a continuous stream of what your friends are doing. You can see what posts they are commenting on and who their friends are. This opened a can of worms as far as privacy is concerned. In late August 2011, Facebook changed their privacy settings. The default settings can make your posts public and viewable by all.

You need to check your own privacy settings. Do not assume Facebook has set them the way you want them. Go to this link to check and set them.

The four videos below provide an explanation and overview. The first one is from Facebook. The other three are from Bill Risser, an independent consultant. While he talks about mobile devices, the same settings apply to regular computers. Also, the privacy settings he uses, are probably not as secure as you may want. You need to decide what you are comfortable with. The videos are presented only to walk you through the process.
